Building your first Palworld base the wrong way is the most common mistake new players make. After dozens of hours and chests everywhere, the idea of moving becomes unthinkable.
The truth is: your base should change with your game stage. Early-game expansion, mining, oil, and long-term living each need different things. Solving one problem at a time is far easier than hunting for the mythical "perfect endgame base" from minute one.
Stage-by-Stage Base Strategy
(LV 1-10)
(LV 10-25)
(LV 25-40)
(LV 40+)
(Optional)
One base for each phase. Don't try to make one base do everything from minute one — that ends with chest mountains and bottlenecked Pals.
The starter plateau is nothing fancy, but it's perfect for the first few hours. The ground is flat, with a ring of metal ore, and you can drop a workbench, chests, and a small farm right away. Early game needs one thing: a place to live without constant reorganization.
Don't rush to decorate it. Once the Sphere Assembler, premium Pal Spheres, and production lines start eating resources, this base will feel cramped fast. Live comfortably early — move when you need to.
Resource Distribution
Once metal ingots can't keep up with your needs, opening a dedicated mining base saves a lot of pain. This highland's value is obvious: iron and coal are densely packed in the ore-cluster range. Bring mining/transport Pals and chests, and your base can ship ingots by itself.
Don't turn the mining base into a full living area — beds, food, and a hot spring are enough. Leave the rest of the space for ore nodes and transport routes. It's not here to look pretty; stable production is what matters.
Resource Distribution
If you don't want iron, coal, and sulfur each claiming their own base, consider this comprehensive resource area. Its single-resource yields aren't extreme, but several mid-to-long-term resources cluster close together — great for players who hate long-distance hauling.
Layout matters more here. Walk the perimeter before you build and watch whether Pals get blocked by slopes and elevation differences. Then decide where the terminal, storage, and beds go. More ore doesn't mean higher efficiency — if Pals run around all day, the resources are wasted.
Resource Distribution
Once your production lines are stable, picking the endgame main base is no longer about chasing ore. Cherry Blossom Island is flat, with oil, coal, and sulfur all nearby — breeding, storage, and main production can gradually move here.
It's not somewhere to rush moving into early. Forcing the move early means time wasted on round-trip hauling. Wait until your flying mount, fast-travel points, and building materials are all unlocked — then the move becomes far less painful.
Resource Distribution
Once oil enters your resource list, Sunny Island is the perfect spot for a dedicated oil base. The island has six oil nodes, and the terrain is very regular — just lay out your extractors and power supply around the oil spots.
Oil extraction hates complexity: machines, generators, and transport already take up a lot of space. If you cram breeding, farming, and crafting in here too, Pals will become overworked chaos. Let this base focus on oil only — that's the way to stability.
Resource Distribution
Some players don't care about nearby ore — they just want to build houses in peace. This ruined tower spot sits high up, and enemies can barely reach the production zone. It works perfectly as a warehouse, breeding area, or pure residence.
The trade-off is obvious: there's no ready-made ore here, and the usable space isn't very regular. After dropping the terminal, start with a few sturdy Direhowls. They can eat, sleep, and work normally while you slowly lay down buildings.

When to Move: Relocation Tips
The most common regret isn't picking the wrong location — it's refusing to leave even when a base no longer fits.
Three clear signs it's time to move:
① Chests piling up so you can't find anything
② Pals stuck at stair corners all day
③ Ore and oil require manual round-trip hauling
When the time comes, you don't need to clear out all at once. Drop a terminal, bed, and chests at the new location first, let production run there, then move important materials in a few trips. Pressure drops dramatically.
Your first base exists to get you on your feet. Your mining base exists to feed resources. Your endgame main base is where you live long-term. Splitting the roles like this makes the whole system run smoothly.
